Infrequent sightings of individuals in early spring. Usually 1 per month Feb-April observed each year since 1998

Size: Medium
Wings: With characteristic ragged edges with a short tail on each hindwing
Upperside: bright orange with dark markings
Underside:
banded shades of grey and brown
marked with a white comma
Females are tan-coloured with the basal half darker than the apical or outer half

Wings: Upperside are bright gold-brown
Upperside is darker in males than in females
