Saddle-shaped cap 1.5 - 5 cm wide. Grey stalk marked with brown spots, 4 - 10 cm high, deeply fluted with holes (lacunae)
Helvella lacunosa bottom view Helvella lacunosa habit view
Cap attached to stalk at more than one point. Found in forested areas growing on ground. Associated with decaying wood.

Sightings:
Photographed October 21, 2003 on the west side of the Bridle Path about 100 m north of the junction with Tatlow Trail beneath Douglas-fir in a 15+ year plantation.
