Yellow to orange cap to 15 cm wide with an iirregular lobed margin, convex to flat, sunken in center. Thick, forked ridges run down the stalk. Stalk to 7 - 7.5 cm high and up to 1.5 cm wide.

Ridges resemble blunt gills but unlike gills are covered by a thin fertile layer which can be seen in cross-section. Growing on ground under conifers. Found singly or in large groups.
