Vine Maple Vine maple is a native shrub that adds rich colour to the conifer forest's shaded understory layer. Standing at the forest edge allowed this maple to capture October's strong direct sunlight. Clear skies brought cold overnight temperatures and halted the leaf's chemical factory. This produced the glowing red, orange and yellow pigments.       Field Guide Entry: Vine Maple
